Thank you for your interest in adopting a rescue pup! We take great care in placing our pets in the best homes. Below is some information on the type of homes we look to place our dogs in.
Although not always required for every dog, we do prefer to place our dogs in homes that have a fenced yard. This is so they have a safe place for interactive play time. Please note that we do not allow underground fences or “pens” to be used. Regarding the veterinary records, what we are looking for are the most recent receipts of each of your animals having their annual wellness exam which would include necessary vaccinations, fecal and heartworm testing and purchasing of monthly flea and heartworm preventative (which will provide us with a starting point on medical history). Should you happen to purchase your medication through another clinic or online pharmacy, please be sure to include documentation of this too. If you have used several different vets in the past 5 years, please list them all because we will need to create a complete picture when looking over medical history. Potential homes are carefully screened as we are trying to place our pets in the best homes. Please note that we MUST be able verify consistent proof of heartworm prevention in order to process your application (we weigh your current/past pet’s medical history heavily when matching animals to forever homes).
We typically look to adopt to homes who have had pets before for two main reasons: they will have a verifiable medical history showing the level of care provided to the pet which we can confirm and because previous owners will have experience with typical issues that arise when having a pet and, therefore, be less surprised/overwhelmed by them (i.e. time, training and financial commitment that pets require). Sadly, many dogs are surrendered to shelters every day due to behavioral issues (as well as other reasons). We are looking, not just to adopt our dogs but to place them in FOREVER homes where, no matter what, the parents consider the pet a part of the family and work through issues. If you are young and have never had an animal, we do allow a parent’s vet reference to be used. In this case, you would simply put in the app that this is your parent’s animal, not yours, and list their information along with your parent’s names, vet clinic and phone number. Questions like “where does your current pet sleep” would be answered using your parent’s pet in mind.
Before submitting your application, please be ready to adopt as our approval process can usually be completed fairly quickly (assuming all your application is in order and you call your vet to release medical history). While application approval does not require you to adopt that animal, we do not charge an application fee so we want to be assured that you are truly committed to our adoption process. Unfortunately, we do not have the ability to “hold” animals once applications are approved so please be ready to pick up your pet in a timely manner once approved.
When adopting a puppy, please make sure you are committed to everything that entails. In addition, please make sure you have a plan in place for how your dog will potty throughout the day as puppies cannot be crated more than a couple of hours. We do prefer stay-at-home parents, retired individuals and persons who work-from-home because of this. However, the puppy going to doggy day care, hiring an in-home dog sitter, taking the puppy to work every day or having a neighbor who dog sits would be other examples of solutions. When adopting an adult, be aware that it can take even house trained dogs a "transition period" to get accustomed to your house/yard and potty routines so they should be treated the same as puppies until they fully understand the routine. We encourage owners to "train" with their adopted dogs; however please be aware that our adoption contract specifically states that we only allow positive reinforcement training methods (no "dominance" or "blended").
Should you have any questions or have trouble submitting vet records, please let us know as we are here to help you along the way. While our application is lengthy, please keep in mind we do this in lieu of a home visit. We take pride in our dogs and only want the very best for them. Please put a lot of thought into your answers and answer each question fully as we are trying to match each pet with a home where they can be most successful. Short or unanswered questions gives the impression that you are not committed to taking on a 15-year commitment.
Typical adoption fees are $250 - $400 depending on breed, size, age, etc. but you will need to email us at [email protected] for adoption fees on specific dogs. We encourage adopters to consider an additional donation which will go toward her vet bills since the amount we have in each dog always outweighs our adoption fees.
Thank you so much for your interest in adopting a rescue pet. We look forward to working with you.
