Annabelle
It is with a heavy heart that we let our supporters know that Annabelle has crossed over the rainbow bridge. This sweet girl had originally come to CARES in late September, 2015...a product of an overly bred dog used for profit and never properly cared for. For the first time in this girl's life, she received unconditional love. We worked desperately to get her healthy so we could find her that special home...vaccinations, de-wormings and sterilization surgery were a start. When we learned she had multiple tumors around her reproductive organs, we got that taken care of. Unfortunately the previous "owners" did not keep Annabelle on HW preventative so testing was quick to reveal a heavy positive result.
As bad and as deadly as heartworms are, there was grave concern over some of the other symptoms Annabelle was experiencing which had nothing to do with heartworms. It was a long road but additional diagnostics revealed that Annabelle was dealing with something even more fatal - stage 4 rectal cancer.
Annabelle was humanely euthanized on Jan 15, 2016. She passed away in the arms of an amazing CARES volunteer, Lesley, at 5:36 PM.
"Annabelle, we tried so hard to save you but still failed. We gave you so much love and attempted to make you comfortable for your last days here. We will always remember you."
CARES would like to give special thanks to Culbreth,Carr, Watson Animal Clinic for performing all Annabelle's initial surgeries and to Dr. Hooper at Village Vet in Buckhead for all her efforts during the diagnosis and cancer treatment. We would also like to recognize a special Angel, Lesley Flores, for fostering this sweet baby through her last days. Despite Annabelle being a true Special Needs Medical Dog, Lesley gave her love and allowed her to live as a true family member...something Annabelle had probably never experienced. Annabelle will be greatly missed.
Run Free Beautiful Girl - there is no more pain, your body is healed and your soul is free...
